It took some time for me to realize how much of a show stopper fear can be. I’m not talking about the fear that keeps you from walking down a dark alley – that’s attached more to common sense. I’m referring to the fear that grips you and prevents you from exploring opportunities.
No one wants to fail at anything. Fear makes you believe that if you don’t try, you can’t fail. What a huge lie! Not trying is guaranteed failure. I’m encouraged by the words God spoke to Joshua:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.””
Joshua 1:9 NKJV
I take these words spoken to Joshua to heart because I know fear is used to control. It’s used by marketers to instill “fear of missing out” (FOMO), and by propagandists to gaslight you into believing something false. We make this easy when truth becomes relative. I learned to cast off fear and decided to stand on absolute truth – the word of God.
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6 NKJV
For me, fear, anxiety, and worry had all steamed from uncertainty about the future. I know that there is a plan and purpose for my life. If anyone tries to tell me otherwise, I find it easy to boldly stand on the truth. Why? Because facts change, the truth always remain the same.
Now I seek out new opportunities – especially things that will stretch me beyond my comfort zone. At the very least, I’m going to learn something new in the process – and in that sense, I can’t fail!
