I’m blessed that my grandmother and parents never transferred the fear and pain they experienced. What they did transfer was wisdom. I was taught to judge behavior I observed and not rely on someone else’s opinion. I was told that I was smart, capable, and that I would have to fight harder from the place I was starting – but, I would never have to step on anyone else to get to the next level. I was reminded to guard my heart (I never really needed a lot of personal space), but always give to those in need – no matter who it is. I’m so thankful they helped me understand that focusing on doing what was right gave me little to no time to suffer in things that were wrong.
