One of the best things I have done for myself in recent years is progressively filter and reduce the amount of social content I consume. Conversely, I intentionally look for and share content that tells me who I really am in Christ. Honestly, it’s absolutely the best thing you can do to get your flesh under control. Why? The world (especially through social media) bombards you with information that makes everything about you. All that does is feed the self indulgent nature (sin) of your flesh that Christ freed you from on the cross.
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”
I John 2:15-17
The world will never stop giving you an alternative to Christ. Deception is the only thing the enemy has as a weapon against you. The reason it works is because the deception will ways feed your flesh, and your flesh is never satisfied. Your spirit was made new in Christ. But our souls are transformed by first renewing our minds (Romans 12:1-2). Holy Spirit dwells in you, so you have self control (Galatians 5:22-23) – use it! Chose to feed yourself the truth of God’s word.
As a Christian, Jesus is my example – the only one I should compare myself to. There isn’t another person on this earth, alive or dead, that I should use as a model. It’s vital that I keep this mindset so I make disciples of Jesus and not of myself. I know that I am always influencing people for or against Christ – there is no grey area. The worst mistake I can make is to do nothing. It’s okay to make a mistake – there isn’t a single mistake that God can’t fix. To do nothing is anti-Christ.
