We seem to have a fascination with elevating people in leadership roles. Truth be told, a true leader doesn’t need nor desires to be elevated above those they are called to serve. His or her heart is to use their gifts and abilities to improve the lives of those they serve – being called is a reward in itself.
D.C. is a manifestation of our misguided view of what leadership is. Feeding such a beast won’t appease it, but make it stronger and demand more of you and not for you – even to suspend your common sense to mask oppression. We have been taught better;
“And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.” (Luke 22:25-26)
There are true leaders that are called for such a time as this, and many may be considered unworthy vessels by religious people. However, Jesus calls those who listen and obey – not those who look the part.
